KFOR ONCE AGAIN MORE TOGETHER IN SUPPORT OF ELECTORAL PROCESS IN KOSOVO
The elections day on 23 February in MITROVICA was calm and was very well conducted by all the involved actors.
The security arrangements for the repeated mayoral elections in MITROVICA North have been carefully planned and coordinated between Kosovo Police, EULEX and KFOR.
The three security providers were present and visible near the polling centres to guarantee people's right to vote in a peacefully and orderly manner.
Early in the morning COM KFOR, Major General Salvatore FARINA, visited the multinational troops deployed in the area and had a chance to exchange brief point of view and salute KP officials as well as EULEX and OSCE members.
The security operation during the electoral process remains a success story for local security organizations in Kosovo and KFOR.
For this reason COM KFOR commends all stakeholders and residents for contributing to the smooth and orderly conduct of the repeated elections: again an important democratic achievement.
COM KFOR thanks the Kosovo Police for professionally fulfilling its role as the first responder and EULEX as the second responder.
At the same time COM KFOR also commends OSCE for achieving the objective of its mission and enabling the conduct of this historic democratic process.
NATO and KFOR will continue to work to provide a secure environment and enable freedom of movement for all people in Kosovo and will support progress towards the implementation of the agreement between Pristina and Belgrade, to the best of its ability within the mandate provided by UN Security Council resolution 1244.
