KFOR CONTRIBUTED TO THE RENOVATION OF KINDERGARTEN IN MITROVICA/MITROVICE SOUTH

17th November 2014. Today KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, attended the opening ceremony of the renovation of the kindergarten in Mitrovica/Mitrovice South, together with the Mayor of municipality, Mr. Agim Bahtiri.

This project, planned and financed by KFOR, the NGOs Italian Save the Children and Swiss Caritas, consisted of the renovation of classrooms in order to make them usable and functional. The accomplishment of this project was also made possible due to the close cooperation with local authorities. The quality of the educational system for the children of the area will be enhanced by the renewal of this kindergarten, which is the only one present in the city.

General Figliuolo said: "It is an honor for me to be here with you today to help celebrate the grand opening of this beautiful kindergarten building. The value of education during a child’s years is unlimited and builds important links between families, schools and communities. This kindergarten project is also a bright example of the important role of cooperation. All the stakeholders came together – the municipality, the school director, the "Save the Children” charitable organization, and more – in joint action to make this all possible”.

Furthermore, tomorrow will see an important agreement take place between the municipality of Mitrovica North and KFOR. It concerns the donation of two vehicles by KFOR that will be used by the Resource Center for Person with Disabilities for the transportation of the disable children who live in surrounding villages.
