ITALIAN DEPUTY SECRETARY OF DEFENCE VISITS KFOR


20th December 2014. Yesterday, KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, met with the Honorable Domenico Rossi, Italian Deputy Secretary of Defence, at Camp "Film City” NATO KFOR Headquarters in Pristina/Prishtinë.

During his visit, the Honorable Rossi was briefed by General Figliuolo about the current security situation in the area. The meeting was held in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Kosovo H.E. Andreas Ferrarese.

KFOR Commander and the Honorable Rossi agreed on the importance of the role of KFOR in supporting, as the third responder, Kosovo Police and EULEX, in order to maintain a safe and secure environment and t freedom of movement, thus allowing the development of better social and economic conditions.

On completion of his visit to KFOR, the Honorable Domenico Rossi took the opportunity to meet members of the Italian Armed Forces located in Camp "Film City” and representatives of Italian service members of the Multinational Battle Group West, led by Colonel Carlo Cavalli, expressing his appreciation to them for their excellent professionalism and contribution to the mission in Kosovo. He finally affirmed that supporting KFOR is one of the top priorities for Italy.

Currently, about 550 Italian troops are deployed across Kosovo. Italy is the lead nation of the Multinational Battle Group West in Pec/Peja, and of the Multinational Specialized Unit and of the Joint Regional Detachment Center in Pristina/Prishtinë. Furthermore other Italian Armed Forces service members are also part of the KFOR HQ Staff.
