COMKFOR MET WITH THE NATO SECRETARY GENERAL’S SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY


01st December 2014 – Today KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, received the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security, H.E. Marriet Schuurman at NATO KFOR Headquarters in Pristina/Prishtinë.

  KFOR Commander and H.E. Schuurman discussed many topics related to the overall security situation, the recent developments in the Balkan area and the great importance of gender perspectives and dimension.

 General Figliuolo said: "KFOR is a NATO-led mission where a gender perspective has been integrated in the planning of operational activities because we consider this one of priorities and an important key to success”.

 In particular KFOR’s daily activities performed by the Liaison Monitoring Teams, consisting of male and female members, assures contact with political, social and religious local authorities and the representatives of several ethnic groups. Having a gender balance guarantees complete situational awareness. The success obtained in these activities, thanks to the KFOR gender dimension, contribute significantly to the improved relationships between all communities of the area and consequently to the accomplishment of KFOR’s mission.

 During her visit to Camp Film City, H.E. Schuurman had also the opportunity to discuss with KFOR subordinates units representatives about the importance gender perspectives in KFOR mission.
