COM KFOR MET WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF TURKEY TO KOSOVO


10 December 2014. Yesterday, KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, met this with the Ambassador of Turkey to Kosovo, H.E. Songul Ozan, at the NATO KFOR Headquarters in Pristina/Prishtinë.

General Figliuolo and H.E. Ozan discussed many topics relating to the overall security situation and recent developments in the area. This was the second meeting held in three months between COM KFOR and the Turkish Ambassador. It was an opportunity for General Figliuolo to highlight the close ties between the KFOR Turkish component and the local population and the positive contribution made with regard to ensuring a safe and secure environment and maintaining freedom of movement in Kosovo according to UN resolution 1244.

During the meeting General Figliuolo highlighted the important role played by the Joint Regional Detachment-South (JRD-S) under the command of Turkish Colonel Omer Faruk Demireioglu. JRD-S operates in the Southern part of Kosovo, with non-kinetic assets known as Liaison and Monitoring Teams.  They successfully contribute to KFOR’s situational awareness.

Currently, Turkey is an important Contributing Nations to KFOR with more than 350 soldiers deployed in Kosovo, operating in KFOR Headquarters, Joint Regional Detachment-South (JRD-S) as lead Nation, JRD-Center with a Liaison Monitoring team and with a Company in the Multinational Battle Group East.
