Gender equality advisor to SACEUR visits NLO Skopje.
NLO, Skopje - The Chief NATO Liaison Office Skopje, Bulgarian Navy Captain Rumen Radev, accompanied by
members of the NATO Advisory Team, on 26 November 2015, in the premises of the
Office, met the advisor for gender equality to NATO's Supreme Allied Commander
Europe (SACEUR), Mrs. Charlotte Isaksson and the Swedish Embassy Deputy Head of
Mission, Ms. Azadeh Alian. The subject of the meeting was the status of
implementation by the Host Nation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on
women, peace and security. Mrs. Charlotte Isaksson stressed on this occasion
that the implementation of this resolution primarily depends on the countries'
leaders, and she praised the HN for the success achieved thus far. She noted
that the hitherto achievements at national level in general but particularly in
the armed forces is commendable. In the same context, it was underscored that
the NATO Advisory Team should possess or have access to adequate advisory
capability in terms of knowledge and expertise.
The previous day, in the Army Hall, a panel discussion was held to mark the 15
anniversary since the adoption of UNSCR 1325. The panel was opened by the State
Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Elizabeta Chupovska Ristova. She stressed
that the role of women in all spheres of society as well as the HN's commitment
to gender equality including in the security sector.
