On 8 April 2014, the Head of the Hellenic Liaison Office in Skopje, HE Theoharis Lalakos, accompanied by the Hellenic Military Liaison Officer in Skopje, Colonel Nikolaos Arampatzis, visited the premises of NLO Sk, and met with the Chief, Colonel Alexandar Alexandrov, and members of the NATO Advisory Team. During the meeting, the visitors were familiarized with the structure, terms of reference, main activities, and contributions, of the Office.
In the course of the discussion, Colonel Alexandrov underlined the importance of professionalization in the HN Armed Forces, which represents the base of modernization, and a pillar of the process to join NATO. He also emphasized the importance of prioritization and rationalization in the drafting of the Long Term Defense Development Plan 2014-2023.
Mr. Lalakis expressed his gratitude for the invitation, and was interested to hear about the HN defence planning process, and in particular, our Office’s involvement in it. He inquired about support for NATO in the HN, which is considered to still be high. He stressed that Greece is a staunch supporter of NLO Sk, both with a military Advisor in it, but also with assistance in any area requested.
He was interested about the financial situation of the HN military budget, and if donations received are enough to support its modernization. The meeting closed with a promise of improved communication and collaboration in the future.
