US Army Brigadier General Christopher J. Petty assumes command of NATO HQ Sarajevo


US Army Brigadier General Christopher J. Petty assumed yesterday command of NATO HQ Sarajevo from US Air Force Brigadier General Merle D. Hart before Admiral Bruce W. Clingan, Commander, Allied Joint Forces Command Naples.

During the ceremony in Camp Butmir, outgoing Commander General Merle noted that progress was made under his watch and that he knew that General Petty would continue to progress and advance the goals for the betterment of the Armed Forces of BiH and the country as a whole.
 
Merle also sent a message to the governance of Bosnia and Herzegovina, humbly asking them to work to find compromise and solutions to move the country forward for the betterment of all.
 
General Petty said that his goal was to make the Armed Forces of BiH more capable and defense reform in BiH, which encompasses all issues required for BiH to move closer to NATO, as well as support to EUFOR.
 
General Petty reminded that the government of BiH had decided that pursuing NATO membership was the way to forward to these goals and expressed his gratitude to be part of this effort.
