NATO and BiH organized Flood Response Workshop
NHQSa Commander, General Petty has participated in the international lessons learned workshop "Flood Response – Bosnia and Herzegovina 2014”, which takes place in Sarajevo this week.
The workshop was organized by the BiH Ministry of Security and NATO HQs in Brussels and Sarajevo. In the opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Security of BiH Mladen Cavar said that the proportions of this year’s natural disaster have confirmed that BiH cannot cope with the consequences alone, and that NATO has confirmed BiH can always rely on its international relief mechanisms. Responding to a media question, General Petty stated that BiH is currently in the process of identifying lessons learnt, at all levels of authorities. He also noted that the complex system reflects on the coordination in extraordinary circumstances. Along with representatives of the BiH institutions, representatives of 21 countries which supported BiH during the May 2014 floods with their troops and humanitarian aid are taking part in the workshop.
