Colonel Papp received his first commission in 1989 following graduation from Bólyai János Military Technological College in Budapest.
In the early course of his military career, Col Papp served as platoon and company commander for air defence missile units. Graduating from the Economical University of Budapest as Human Resources Manager in 1997, Col Papp served as personnel officer for the Hungarian NCO Academy, the Hungarian Defence Staff J6, J2 and J6 Directorates.
In 2005 Papp completed his Human Recourses Expert studies at the University of Pécs. Between 2005 and 2008 Col Papp concluded his tour at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, J1 Directorate, Contingency Operations and Planning Branch as Balkans’ desk officer. After completing his three-year NATO tour he served for two years as human strategy senior officer in the Hungarian Ministry of Defence.
After completing six months operational deployment at NATO Headquarters Sarajevo from May 2010 until November 2010 as human resources advisor in the NATO Advisory Team, Papp took the lead of the Doctrine Branch of the Hungarian Defence Forces Command and Doctrine Centre. He was promoted to Colonel on May 1, 2011. From June 2011 until February 2012 he served at EUFOR Headquarters Sarajevo as Military Assistant to the Deputy Commander/Chief of Staff.
After returning to Hungary only for a short period, Colonel Papp took the position Assistant Chief of Staff J9 at Headquarters NATO Rapid Deployable Corps in Solbiate Olona, Italy, on July 1, 2012. From July 2016, he was appointed to his latest position as Commander of the National University of Public Service Faculty of Military Sciences and Officer Training Military Examination Centre.
His awards and military decorations include Merit of Service Gold Medal with leaves, Merit of Service Medal Gold, Silver and Bronze grade, Officer’s Service Sign 3rd Class (after 10 years), 2nd Class (after 20 years) and 1st Class (after 30 years), NATO Service Medals (2008 and 2016), NATO Non Article 5 Service Medal, Common European Security and Defence Policy Service Medal (Operation ALTHEA), COM NRDC-ITA Commendation, COM EUFOR Commendation and COM NATO HQ Sarajevo commendation.
Colonel Papp is avid reader of military history. He enjoys skiing, swimming, biking, long distance, ultra and trail running.
Colonel Papp is married and has two boys.
