Colonel Ferenc Könczöl

Chief of Staff, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)

Colonel Ferenc Könczöl assumed his duties as Chief of Staff NATO Headquarters, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In his capacity, Col Könczöl manages the staff that supports the primary NATO Advisory Team mission in BiH.

Colonel Könczöl received his first commission in 1991 following graduation from Bólyai János Military Technological College in Budapest. In the course of his military career, Col Könczöl served as an air defence Launching plt. Commander, Battery Executive Officer, Battery Commander, SAM Group Chief of Staff, Chief of Training, Chief of Integration Affairs, Deputy Chief of Staff – Operations, Chief of Staff and a Deputy Commander. Since 1 Juy 2016 he has been the assigned commander of the only Hungarian Ground Based Air Defence unit, SAM WING 12 ‘Arrabona’. 

In the period from 1991 to 2017, Col Könczöl received numerous awards and medals, to include Silver Air Defence Medal, Merit of Service Medal, Gold, Silver and Bronze grade, Meritorious Service Medal Laureate grade, Officer’s Service Sign 3rd Class, Officer’s Service Sign 2nd Class, Officer’s Service Sign 1st Class, Service Medal for Flood Control, Service Medal for Peacekeeping, COS EUFOR Commendation, Common European Security and Defence Policy Service Medal, and Service Medal for Migration Crisis Management.

Col Könczöl is married and lives in Győr.
