NHQSa Commander General Folkestad attended a Women, Peace and Security VTC

Gender equality and women's empowerment are critical to international peace and security. The economic empowerment of women greatly contributes to the stabilization of societies, and the involvement of women in conflict resolution leads to more effective, longer lasting peace agreements.

BiH is leading the way internationally in ensuring that women and gender perspectives are fully integrated into the armed forces. They were the first country in the region to conduct a full gender audit and have developed an action plan to implement changes.

A conference, sponsored by the British Embassy, was held in Mostar to update hundreds of regulations which will ensure the full integration of women into the armed forces, and improve standards for all soldiers.
