NATO HQ Sarajevo hosts Atlantic Council’s Millennium Fellowship event

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina - Personnel from NATO Headquarters Sarajevo met with twenty rising leaders under 35 years old at an event organized by the Atlantic Council of Washington, D.C. in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, July 4, 2016.

NATO Headquarters Sarajevo commander, U.S. Army Brigadier General Giselle Wilz, accompanied by the commander’s senior political-military advisor, Mr. Rohan Maxwell, talked with the members of the 2016-2017 Class of Millennium Fellows. The fellows' main goal in Bosnia and Herzegovina is to explore the Alliance through the case study of Operation Deliberate Force, NATO’s first combat operation, and examine the current security, economic, and political situation in the Western Balkans.

"Having an opportunity to speak with next generation leaders participating in the Atlantic Council’s Millennium Fellowship and discuss NATO’s role in Bosnia and Herzegovina along with the challenges Bosnia and Herzegovina faces on both the local and regional level as they pursue their Euro-Atlantic aspirations is extremely significant,” said General Wilz.
She added that "it is about connecting these future global leaders with "on the ground’ realities, and providing them with a local perspective on how the global strategic challenges are impacting this nation.”

General Wilz enjoyed the discussion and many questions asked by the group, who will also head to the Warsaw Summit, where Secretary General Stoltenberg has invited the Council to organize a Future Leaders Summit as part of the official NATO summit program.
