NATO Science for Peace and Security support South-Eastern Europe research on renewable energy sources

One of the ways NATO supports security in BiH is by funding science programmes which keep us all safe.

Like everything in NATO, international collaboration and cooperation is central to these programmes as we draw on the diversity and different expertise which exist across the Alliance. By bringing experts together to tackle security challenges like cyber defence, counter-terrorism and the detection of explosive hazards, we all benefit.

Our cooperation aligns with our evolving partnership and with an ever-changing security landscape, and is increasingly focusing on the application of technologies to tackle new and emerging challenges,

said Dr. Claudio Palestini, a Senior Advisor with NATO’s Science for Peace and Security Programme.

Previous SPS activities have helped to build BiH’s capacity to resist cyber-attacks, as well as to be able to respond swiftly and effectively to natural disasters.

See our video on SPS collaboration between the University of Sarajevo and academics from Belgrade and Ljubljana on hydrogen fuel cell development – which could help tackle energy dependence, help in the fight against climate change and improve the quality of the air we breathe.

And our video on the most successful SPS project to date – the live saving Next Generation Incident Command System.

We are now looking for new projects in BiH to fund. Opportunities for cooperation are announced as calls for proposals, which can be found on the SPS website or by subscribing to the SPS mailing list.
