This week, members of BiH's Joint Committee on Defense and Security are in Brussels to learn more about Euro-Atlantic structures, contribute to multi-national discussions on the security situation in the Western Balkans and receive updates on NATO Defence Capacity Building package currently being developed.
National parliamentary oversight over defence and security is a fundamental principle of NATO. The NATO Parliamentary Assembly brings together members of parliament from across the members and partners of our Alliance to discuss and influence decisions on Alliance security. Cooperating with parliamentarians in partner countries, the Assembly has also assisted in the development of parliamentary mechanisms, practices and know-how essential for the effective democratic control of armed forces.

Welcoming the delegation to HQ Brussels, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy Marie-Doha Besancenot expressed her satisfaction with the visit and stated that NATO will continue to support building defense capacities of BiH. The role of the BiH PA was especially highlighted in the field of adoption of laws that will clearly indicate political determination aimed at further strengthening of the defense and security sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The visit was also a welcomed opportunity to visit NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), and receive an update on NATO assistance to further development of operational capabilities of BiH Armed Forces, and close NATO partnership with BiH defense and security institutions.
NHQSa delegation, lead by the Commander Brigadier General Pamela McGaha, accompanied the BiH delegation on the trip.
