General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), also known as the Dayton Peace Agreement (or Accords) was signed. This established a NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) to take over peacekeeping from the UN UNPROFORAt its height IFOR involved troops from 32 nations and more than 80,000 soldiers stationed in BiH and neighboring countries. The SFOR mission ends. Responsibility for the military aspects of Dayton, and maintaining a safe and secure environment, are handed to the European Union (EUFOR / Operation Althea)NATO HQ Sarajevo is created to assist BiH with defence reforms. It also retains some responsibilities and authorities set out in the Dayton Agreement. In 2002 NATO and the EU agreed a framework for cooperation and support in military activities, known as the Berlin Plus Agreement. NHQSa provides support to EUFOR – for example sharing headquarters and support staff- under this agreement. BiH's involvement in NATO's Science for Peace and Security Programme begins.Projects have included using technology to improve regional civil emergency co-ordination and exploring innovative ways to detect landmines BiH Armed Forces contribute to the NATO led mission to Afghanistan for the first time BiH makes an application for a Membership Action Plan SFOR (stabilization Force) replaces IFOR, with a greater focus on contributing to a safe and secure environment. BiH joins NATO's Partnership for Peace Programme An Individual Action Plan for BiH is agreed 1995 2004 2007 2009 1996 2006 2008 2010 BiH invited to join the Membership Action Plan BiH experiences catastrophic floods and asks for NATO's help. NATO's Euro Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre swings into action and NATO members and partners provide vital support to the authorities in BiH 2014 2019 BiH published its first Annual National Programme BiH asks for NATO's help to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Euro Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre NATO members and partners provide life saving PPE and medical supplies to the authorities in BIH. 2020
