General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), also known as the Dayton Peace Agreement (or Accords) was signed. This established a NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) to take over peacekeeping from the UN UNPROFORAt its height IFOR involved troops from 32 nations and more than 80,000 soldiers stationed in BiH and neighboring countries. The SFOR mission ends. Responsibility for the military aspects of Dayton, and maintaining a safe and secure environment, are handed to the European Union (EUFOR / Operation Althea)NATO HQ Sarajevo is created to assist BiH with defence reforms. It also retains some responsibilities and authorities set out in the Dayton Agreement. In 2002 NATO and the EU agreed a framework for cooperation and support in military activities, known as the Berlin Plus Agreement. NHQSa provides support to EUFOR – for example sharing headquarters and support staff- under this agreement.
