NATO Strategic Direction - South

Announced as fully operational in July 2018, the Hub is an exciting forum that connects Allies, partners and subject-matter experts to understand and overcome security challenges in the African continent and the Middle East. As a key element of NATO's Framework for the South, this diverse civilian and military team based at JFC Naples connects, consults, and coordinates to address dynamic destabilizing conditions which are conducive to the spread of violent extremism and undermine the rule of law.

NATO Mission Iraq

Launched at the Brussels Summit in July, this non-combat mission builds on NATO's efforts to train Iraqi forces at they work to prevent the re-emergence of ISIS and other violent exgremists. Military Training Teams under the NATO flag advise, assist, and train Iraqi forces—complementing on-going Coalition, EU and UN efforts. Comprising two forward locations in Taji and Besmaya and led by a two-star general in Baghdad, military and civilian personnel from Allied and partner nations mentor Iraqi instructors in equipment maintenance, explosive ordinance disposal and military medicine.

NATO Southeast

An important component of NATO's strengthened deterrence and defence posture is tailored forward presence in the strategic Black Sea region. JFC Naples works with Allies and partners to contribute forces and capabilities on land, at sea, and in the air. Part of the strengthened posture includes a Graduated Response Plan that enables short-notice deployment of ready and postured forces and more exercises and training under the Headquarters Multinational Division Southeast in Bucharest, Romania.

NATO Response Force 2019

Allied Joint Force Command Naples is the Operational Headquarters for the NATO Response Force 2019 (NRF 1`9). NRF is a highly ready and technologically advanced, multinational force made up of land, air, maritime and Special Operations Forces (SOF) components that the Alliance can deploy quickly, wherever needed. JFC Naples was certified to command the NRF 19 during Exercise Trident Juncture 18, during which 50,000 troops successfully deployed to Northern Europe to test the rapid deployment of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force and follow on forces.

NATO in the Western Balkans

JFC Naples has operational control of four security assistance missions in the Balkans: The Kosovo Force (KFOR), NATO HQ Sarajevo, NATO Liaison Office Skopje, and the NATO Military Liaison Office in Belgrade. KFOR was established in 1999 and continues to safeguard security as the largest NATO operation in Europe with 4,600 troops from 30 nations (21 Allies and 9 partner countries).
