NATO Response Force 2021

Allied Joint Force Command Naples is the Operational Headquarters for the NATO Response Force 2021 (NRF 21). NRF is a highly ready and technologically advanced multinational force made up of land, air, maritime and Special Operations Forces (SOF) components that the Alliance can deploy quickly, wherever needed. We will maximize our readiness and capability as we assume this role. To the fullest extent possible, we will rapidly expand our internal Baseline Activities and Current Operations (BACO) processes to match those of crisis response and maximum level of effort - in other words, we'll train like we fight every day.

NATO Mission Iraq

Under our leadership, NATO Mission - Iraq will increase in size and scope, become self-sustaining and assume position to command and control supporting enablers as the team continues its non combat, capacity building mission in support of the Iraqi government. NATO complements the broader international effort to help Iraq eradicate terrorism and promote stability. NMI coordinates closely with other stakeholders, such as Operation Inherent Resolve, the United Nations and the European Union.

Operationalize DDA and SASP

The Concept for Deterrence and Defense of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA) outlines and aligns the Alliance's military goals, intended approaches and resource requirements to address the current and future threat environments. SACEUR's AOR-wide Strategic Plan (SASP) provides strategic direction nested under DDA, informing subordinate headquarters' planning requirements. We will operationalize the concepts captured in DDA and SASP and adopt an operational framework structured to deliver all effects, across all Domains, from all directions at any time or all of the time. Part of the framework includes short-notice deployments of ready forces, additional exercises and training under the Headquarters Multinational Division Southeast and Multinational Corps Southeast in Bucharest, Romania.

Cooperation in the South

JFC Naples synchronizes and executes a full spectrum of programs to enhance cooperation among NATO, the African Union (AU) and its Regional Economic Communities under the NATO Africa Cooperation Project (NACP). The NATO Strategic Direction South – Hub is a key element in NATO's approach to the South. The Hub is an innovative forum that connects Allies, partners and subject matter experts to understand and overcome security challenges in the African continent and the Middle East. This diverse civilian and military team based at JFC Naples connects, consults and coordinates to address dynamic destabilizing conditions which are conducive to the spread of violent extremism and undermine the rule of law. The Hub aligns with other complementary components of NACP as we seek to work with regional partners to enhance peace and stability in Africa.
