16 Dec 2014
NAPLES, Italy – Members of Allied Joint Force Command Naples observed the anniversaries of Partnership for Peace (PfP), the Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), December 15, 2014.
JFC Naples Commander, Admiral Mark Ferguson, recognized the efforts of the Military Partnership Branch and J9 division during the anniversary observance.
"Today, NATO pursues dialogue and practical cooperation with 41 partner countries and engages with other international actors and organizations on a wide range of political and security-related issues. ACOS J9 and the Military Partnership Branch are responsible for these activities in the Joint Force Command Naples area of responsibility, and the work is not easy,” said Admiral Ferguson.
"All told, our Military Partnership Branch is responsible for advancing NATO’s relationship with 18 partner nations: 6 from the Partnership for Peace program; all 7 nations of the Mediterranean Dialogue; as well as the 4 from the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.”
The commander added, "…today’s anniversary is more than a celebration of our partnerships and the efforts that go into sustaining them; it is a celebration of our values and the influence they have on the aspirations of our partners – past, present, and future.”
JFC Naples further observed the anniversaries with an exhibition of "NATO cooperation with partners,” which allowed headquarters staff an overview of the three NATO partnerships frameworks and the daily business of the Military Partnership Branch.
Both the PfP and MD have been active for 20 years, while the ICI marks its 10-year anniversary.
